Sometimes a smile can look gummy making the teeth
look short and square. Sometimes the teeth appear to be of different
or irregular sizes because the gums have overgrown the tooth,
making one side of the mouth look different from the other.
By surgically recontouring this gum architecture, symmetry and
balance can be created. This procedure is highly useful in aesthetics,
but is often overlooked by dentists during the treatment planing
of crowns or veneers on front teeth. Though this may still result
in a well made crown, there may be a compromise in appearance.
Recontouring of the gums is often necessary after braces to
regain an aesthetic appearance of the smile. Traditional treatment
is performed with a scalpel. The use of the Biolase Soft Tissue
Laser allows for greater precision than can be accomplished
with a scalpel. It is also usually a far more comfortable treatment
and often, it can be performed comfortably without any injections.
